EdulingAI has recently launched a suite of advanced features designed to help language learners, particularly those preparing for the IELTS exam, by providing detailed, automated feedback on speech and writing. The following are the key features highlighted in the demo by Dr. Linh Phung, Eduling CEO and Nikolas Wolfe, Eduling CTO.
The full demo video and discussion of the new features.
1. AI-Powered IELTS & CEFR Score Prediction
The app now provides automated assessment metrics for longer stretches of language, such as two-minute speeches or essays.
Score Prediction: Users receive an estimated IELTS and CEFR score (currently in beta) to help them understand their current level and areas for improvement.
Task Performance: This metric evaluates whether the learner addressed all parts of the question and successfully used their linguistic resources to complete the task.
Vocabulary Analysis: The system analyzes lexical resource (vocabulary richness), categorizing words as common, less common, or uncommon in the language sample. It also measures the Type-Token Ratio (unique words vs. total words) to evaluate learners’ lexical resource. For a two-minute speech, a ratio of 0.5 is considered good.
Speaking speed: Often discussed as the best predictor of fluency and language proficiency (among numerous factors), the system gives you your speaking speed in words per minute (wpm) and suggests a good range to aim for.
2. Advanced Grammar & Revision System
EdulingAI uses a sophisticated "NLP stack" and a custom state machine to provide feedback that goes beyond simple error detection.
Contextual Revisions: Instead of just flagging errors, the AI suggests minimal appropriate revisions that preserve the user's intent while making the speech or essay sound more natural and academic for the IELTS exam.
Granular Corrections: Users can tap on specific errors to see the correction and a detailed explanation of the underlying grammar rule (e.g., subject-verb agreement).
Multilingual Explanations: Feedback and explanations can be translated into the user's native language (e.g., Vietnamese) to ensure clarity.
3. Interactive "Live Mode" Coaching
The demo introduced a Live Mode where students can engage in a real-time dialogue with the AI after receiving their initial feedback.
Conversational Follow-up: Students can ask the AI questions like, "Why is this sentence better?" or "Do you have suggestions for more ideas?".
Scaffolded Learning: The AI acts as a tutor, reminding students of task requirements they may have missed (e.g., "You haven't talked about the rooms yet") and prompting them to expand their answers.
With this feature, EdulingAI provides engaging and diverse tasks and offers detailed and pedagogically sound feedback in a dialogic manner that best facilitates language development proficiency. While the team continues to refine their scoring accuracy, the current features offer a powerful way for students to practice high-stakes tasks like IELTS speaking and writing with confidence, convenience, and real-time support.
These tasks are included in such courses as IELTS Speaking: A Complete Course, IELTS Speaking Part 2: A Complete Course, IELTS Writing Task 1, and IELTS Writing Task 2.
Without enrolling in any course, learners and teacher can also try the new features from the following tasks.
